Job Title: Health & Beauty Packaging Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Packaging Technologist to join our team at Harrison Scott Associates. This exciting opportunity will see you working with a leading retailer in the Health and Beauty sector, driving innovation and excellence in packaging design and development.

Key Responsibilities:CSR:
  • Develop and implement the CSR Packaging Roadmap, ensuring alignment with the company's sustainability goals.
  • Lead the innovation and knowledge agenda for packaging and recycling, staying up-to-date with the latest trends and regulations.
  • Review new pack formats for recyclability and reduce/avoid over-packing, working closely with suppliers and buyers to improve.
Structural:
  • Approve all pack formats for structural integrity, brand alignment, and on-shelf presence, providing feedback and guidance to suppliers.
Print & Colour Management:
  • Collaborate with designers and design agencies to achieve proposed designs on all pack formats across a brand/range.
  • Lead pre-artwork meetings with suppliers/printers to onboard them with new designs/design developments, addressing any queries and working with designers and artworkers to achieve the right result.
  • Work with suppliers/printers to decide how best to colour manage each project, setting lead printers, arranging colour standards, and reviewing preferred printer options.
  • Attend print runs on key projects and work with external printers to create wetproofs, digital proofs, and colour standards where appropriate.
  • Review and approve pre and post-production samples for colour/print compliance.
Artwork:
  • Check all artwork for correct layout, print specification, FSC certification, and recycling information in accordance with the latest OPRL guidance.
  • Review electronic proofs sent from printers for accuracy.
Other:
  • Use packaging/print knowledge to suggest cost-saving opportunities.
  • Contribute to process improvements.
  • Undertake ad hoc projects as requested by the Design Manager.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a packaging technologist in the retail/FMCG field, preferably in the Health and Beauty sector.
  • Ability to work to time-critical deadlines.
  • Clear communication skills to liaise with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to deliver successful packaging projects in CSR, structural, and print, from brief to store.
  • Understanding of commercials and how packaging design and specification can improve product costs.
  • Team player with a proactive and results-driven approach.
