Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and analytical Information Business Partner to join our Business Intelligence Team at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

As an Information Business Partner, you will provide real-time support and analysis, acting as a trusted adviser to the management team. Your role will have a heavy emphasis on divisional performance management and analysis, data quality, and business planning, but will link into other divisional and corporate areas, such as finance, strategy, and workforce, as required.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Influence day-to-day decisions, shape strategy, and direct the services you are supporting.
  • Act as the interface or translator between information and non-information colleagues.
  • Be contractually and commercially aware, understanding and anticipating the needs of both operations and management.
  • Interpret data, order, and assess its value, and present the findings to the relevant service or stakeholder in a clear and concise way.
  • Draw on big and small data, selecting appropriate tools to manipulate, analyze, and interpret it in sophisticated, audience-appropriate ways.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital trust in the south-east of England, providing a full range of general hospital services and some aspects of specialist and complex care to around 600,000 people living in west Kent and East Sussex.

We have a team of over 8,000 full and part-time staff and provide specialist cancer services to around 2 million people across Kent and East Sussex via the Kent Oncology Centre.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Education to degree level in a numerate subject or equivalent experience.
  • MS SQL training.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development, with some personal development in courses relevant to information management within the NHS.

Desirable Criteria

  • Prince 2 Practitioner or other project management methodology, or leadership training.

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience in gathering specific and detailed requirements from stakeholders and developing these requirements into specifications and designs for the information and BI Infrastructure teams.
  • Proven experience in delivering in a challenging environment and to tight deadlines.
  • Expertise in acute information data and the manipulation and use of data for best use within the department and wider Trust.
  • Experience of producing regular comprehensive reports.
  • Experience of liaising with very senior internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable Criteria

  • Supervisory or staff management experience.
  • Experience of designing, developing, and implementing strategy.
  • Training and mentoring of junior staff.

Skills

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to identify and advise managers on performance trends and suggest possible explanations, tailored to relevant areas, using narrative and graphical presentations.
  • Ability to effectively provide challenge and scrutiny of systems, processes, and products to improve quality within the team and externally.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and be self-managing.
  • Ability to produce statistical, trends, and performance analysis of primary and secondary care data.
  • Understanding and ability to use SQL Server to extract information for manipulation and analysis.

  • Highly adept at interpreting findings from data reports, tailored to Divisions, and reporting these back in a clear, concise, and understandable way.
  • Presentation skills, interacting with staff at all levels, and dealing with sensitive information.
  • Excellent planning skills to ensure weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual timetables are met, for internal use within Divisions and external returns.
  • Ability to interpret reports and advise managers on likely problem areas, using narrative and graphical presentations.

Knowledge

Essential Criteria

  • A high-level understanding of information analysis in an NHS environment.
  • Knowledge of NHS Data Dictionary and data requirements for central returns.
  • Knowledge of Information Governance and the need for patient confidentiality in handling patient-based information according to Caldicott guidelines.
  • Knowledge and experience of undertaking information analysis and understanding of relational database systems and query interfaces, including the manipulation of databases using queries to support NHS information requirements.

  • Skilled in the use of SQL Server.
