About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Capability Engineer to join our Future Combat Air team at Leonardo. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of combat air capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical and strategic support to Multifunction Processing (MFP) and Digital Backbone (DBB) areas, enabling functional, software, and hardware capabilities for situational awareness and non-kinetic effecting.
  • Ensure convergence and coherence between the FCA and wider Leonardo GCAP capability proposal and customer capability demands.
  • Liaise with Programme and Engineering delivery teams across FCA and Leonardo UK Lines of Business (LoB) to ensure customer desirements and input form part of the delivery programmes.
  • Support MFP/DBB technology and engineering delivery road-map development.
  • Support GCAP Operational Analysis in the context of MFP/DBB capabilities.
  • Ownership of the ISANKE MFP Capability Demand Signal, liaising between FCA Capability team and Engineering functions, and other LoBs, to maintain, iterate, and update the document.
  • Lead and manage the organisation, facilitation, and lessons/actions/data capture for MFP/DBB in MAP Technology Reviews, TEMPEST Quarterly, and Programme Technology Reviews, ensuring maximum stakeholder engagement and participation.
  • Lead and manage the set-up, organisation, facilitation, and lessons/actions/data capture for the cross-LoB FAST forum.
  • Work with Head of FCAS Technologies and Head of Operational Capability to inform MFP/DBB technical requirements capture.
  • Collaborate across FCA and all other LoBs to ensure pro-active interaction and information sharing between all LoB FCAS capability stakeholders (CTOs, CMs, and CEs).
  • Provide Capability Team input to appropriate FCAS-AP WP2 MFP/DBB and TT TDP WP4.1 MFP/DBB strands and facilitate provision of appropriate Capability support to the FCA Engineering Team.
  • Support horizon scouting for disruptive technologies, applied research ideation, and exploratory exploitation of MFP/DBB technical concepts and problem/solution space.
  • Support GCAP international development activities in the MFP/DBB area.
Requirements
  • Degree educated, or equivalent, with career experience in Engineering R&D, and a demonstrated experience of building effective relationships with relevant project stakeholders across Government and Industry Partners.
  • Experience in early Technology Development stages of a Programme lifecycle would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of and experience with situational awareness and non-kinetic effecting concepts, tools, and methodologies within the Combat Air domain is highly desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop the best solutions possible.
