About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Data Engineer to join our Product Data Domain teams at the BBC. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in building and maintaining our data infrastructure, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our data products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop robust and scalable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and analyze large volumes of structured and unstructured data from diverse data sources.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance data quality, governance, and security across the organization, ensuring compliance with BBC guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Prioritize stakeholder requirements and identify the best solution for timely delivery.
  • Build automation workflows, including monitoring and alerting.
  • Encourage and mentor team members to create value with data across the wider organization.
  • Help set standards for coding, testing, and other engineering practices.
  • Lead on building and testing business continuity and disaster recovery procedures.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience in data engineering or analytics engineering, preferably in digital products.
  • Excellent SQL and Python skills.
  • Extensive use of cloud technologies such as AWS and GCP.
  • Good working knowledge of Data Warehousing technologies.
  • Experience in deploying and scheduling code bases in a data development environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of working alongside cross-functional teams.
