Job Title: Principal Software Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Software Engineer to join our team at the BBC. As a key member of our Data Insights team, you will be responsible for driving technical excellence and innovation in our software development practices.

You will be responsible for setting technical direction, providing leadership and guidance to junior engineers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of software solutions using a range of technologies, including cloud-based services, data visualization tools, and testing frameworks.
  • Collaborate with engineers to design, develop, and deploy software products, ensuring they meet the needs of our stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers, helping them to develop their skills and expertise.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize technical requirements, ensuring that software solutions meet the needs of our business.
  • Contribute to the development of technical standards and best practices, ensuring that our software development practices are aligned with industry standards.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in software development, with a strong background in cloud-based services, data visualization tools, and testing frameworks.
  • Excellent technical leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems, such as Git.
  • Strong understanding of software development principles, including design patterns, testing, and deployment.
