Job Summary

Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Paediatric Oncology Consultant to join our team at The Royal London Hospital. As a key member of our multidisciplinary clinical team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality care to our patients and contributing to the development of our paediatric oncology service.

About the Role

This is a substantive consultant post in Paediatric Oncology and General Paediatrics, working full-time (10PA). The successful candidate will join a highly motivated, consultant-led team delivering high-quality paediatric care to Tower Hamlets & East London. The postholder will be responsible for managing a caseload of patients with paediatric oncology and general paediatrics conditions, including inpatient ward reviews, outpatient clinics, and chemotherapy prescribing.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in the short stay attending week rotas and/or inpatient attending week rotas
  • Contribute to the development of our paediatric oncology service, including the management of patients with paediatric oncology conditions
  • Prescribe chemotherapy and work with our multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care to our patients
  • Participate in the on-call rota, including on-site duties until 22:00 on week nights
  • Contribute to the development of our general paediatrics service, including the management of patients with general paediatrics conditions

Person Specification

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Paediatric Oncology Consultant who meets the following criteria:

  • Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice
  • On the GMC specialist register in Paediatrics or within six months of successful completion of UK paediatric training at the time of interview
  • Broad range of clinical experience in Acute General Paediatrics
  • Higher specialist training in Paediatric Medicine
  • At least six months of PICU at middle grade level
  • Up to date APLS/PALS
  • Experience in managing paediatric haematology/oncology patients
  • Higher specialist training in Paediatric oncology (minimum of 6 months in a major Paediatric Haematology/oncology centre) Paediatric oncology SPIN
  • Chemotherapy prescribing
