Special Needs Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our Special Needs Secondary school in Enfield, working on a full-time long-term basis.
About the RoleAs a Behavioural Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for providing social, emotional, and academic support to students with severe Learning Difficulties and Special Needs. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children with mild/complex Autism, Learning difficulties, Challenging/aggressive behaviour, Down syndrome, ADHD, hyper-mobility, and more.
Key Responsibilities- Support students in achieving their educational goals by developing individualised learning plans
- Provide behaviour management strategies to promote positive relationships between students and staff
- Collaborate with teachers to deliver a personalised curriculum that meets the diverse needs of students
The school prioritises student well-being, offering compulsory First Aid and Safeguarding Level 2 Training to all new staff members. Our team is committed to creating a supportive environment where students can thrive.
About the SchoolOur Special Needs Secondary school is rated "Outstanding" by Ofsted, serving a total of 84 pupils aged 11-19 with severe Learning Difficulties and Special Needs. We offer a comprehensive education tailored to meet each pupil's unique abilities, focusing on five key areas:
- Social & Emotional (Feelings, behaviour, interaction)
- Cognition & Learning (Functional skills - English, Maths, Science, ICT)
- Communication & Interaction (Expressive communication - short sentences, single words, non-verbal)
- Sensory and Physical (Health needs / Engagement in physical activities / Sensory processing / Special diets / Puberty)
- Independence (Community access / travel training / Work placements / Personal Care)
- Previous experience working with children with special needs or challenging behaviour
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A valid DBS check or willingness to apply for one
- Availability to start ASAP
