Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Telecoms Cable Engineer to join our team in Preston. As a Telecoms Cable Engineer, you will be responsible for undertaking copper and fibre installation and commissioning works in line with the Telecoms team delivery requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing an installation capability for all copper and fibre installation works for new & existing routes;
  • Undertaking fibre splicing for internal and external fibre routes;
  • Undertaking fibre testing and quality assurance testing on new and existing installations;
  • Undertaking copper jointing and terminations;
  • Implementing planned works within agreed timescales;
  • Providing assistance with fault diagnosis and restoration of fibre networks;
  • Testing copper and fibre circuits after completion and pass 'as built' information to required parties;
  • Undertaking fibre patch line installations and testing in line with the wider network design;
  • Maintaining team and subcontractor Health and Safety culture to ensure all are compliant with current legislation.

Requirements

  • C&G Level 2 qualification in relevant engineering subject or equivalent qualification;
  • Detailed knowledge of Fibre Optic access methodology, including underground and overhead fibre on tower lines;
  • Detailed knowledge of Fibre optic testing and commissioning;
  • Detailed knowledge of Copper access methodology as well as Copper testing and commissioning;
  • Knowledge of Signing Lighting and Guarding NRSWA;
  • Knowledge of Fibre and Copper network maintenance and construction activities;
  • Knowledge of the requirements for working in confined spaces and gas testing and working at heights experience.
