Job Opportunity:

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled Locum Consultant Neonatologist to cover maternity leave. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a level 2 neonatal service at University Hospital Lewisham, working closely with existing consultants.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist care for children on the UHL site in neonatal paediatrics, including treatment and management duties as per the job plan.
  • Share responsibility for 24-hour, 7-day cover for the local neonatal unit on a rota basis, covering colleague's annual leave and short-term sickness.
  • Take responsibility for patients on the local neonatal unit, liaising with nursing staff and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Deal with safeguarding issues as required and manage patients with advice from the safeguarding team.
  • Carry out outpatient duties with administration and patient follow-up.
  • Assist in divisional objectives through clinical work, such as electronic discharges and infection control.

Medical Education & Teaching:

  • Participate in medical student and junior doctor teaching, including clinical and seminar formats.
  • Participate in nurse teaching as appropriate.
  • Undertake monitoring and appraisal of junior staff, taking part as educational supervisor with appropriate training.

Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance:

  • Contribute to divisional governance programme.
  • Involvement in audit projects and supervision of junior staff is encouraged.

Continuing Professional Development:

  • Participate in continuing professional development at local and national level.
  • Implement audit and research findings in clinical practice.
  • Prepare and participate in an annual appraisal according to Trust policy.
  • Undertake additional professional responsibilities as agreed with the Clinical or Divisional Director.

Policy, Planning and Management:

  • Support the Trust to deliver quality patient care according to Trust Principles.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical and organisational protocols.
  • Assist in the development of the Annual Service Plan and participate in strategic planning.
  • Comply with all Trust policies.
