The Role:

As part of the ambitious Student Services and Wellbeing directorate, the Mental Health and Wellbeing team provides wellbeing and counselling support to students in the form of face to face, remote and group therapy and advice. The team also produces a broad range of self-help materials, and their expertise is used to help manage high risk/high complex cases. We are looking for someone who has the skills, experience and knowledge to lead and develop the service to meet the demands of our student community.

With a focus on prevention and early intervention, the Head of Wellbeing and Counselling will use their excellent leadership, management and innovation skills to ensure that services are accessible to all students and that they remain agile and responsive to the internal and external environments. Working as part of the Directorate's Management Team, the postholder will develop excellent working relationships across the institution and with external partners and stakeholders and will be expected to play a key role in strengthening our approach to delivering wellbeing services.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Mental Health and Wellbeing team to provide high-quality wellbeing and counselling services to students.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve student wellbeing and mental health.
  • Work closely with the Directorate's Management Team to develop and implement policies and procedures to support student wellbeing and mental health.
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with external partners and stakeholders to support student wellbeing and mental health.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience of working with young people and students in a similar setting.
  • Excellent understanding of the barriers to engagement and how these can be overcome.
  • Experience of managing a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience of appropriately managing risk and ensuring that practice is safe and ethical.
  • Excellent leadership, management and innovation skills.
