Job Title: Principal Materials Scientist

Leonardo is seeking a highly skilled Principal Materials Scientist to join our team in Edinburgh. As a key member of our technical service group, you will be responsible for providing a value-added defect investigation service to the company, taking into account customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide a timely and effective defect investigation service to the company, ensuring customer requirements are met.
  • Supervise and manage a technical service group, including lab facilities, H&S, RPS, capital, and maintenance.
  • Develop and mentor others within the group, supporting their growth in defect investigation and materials science.
  • Provide materials science support to the engineering community, working across disciplines to resolve technical issues.
  • Prioritize work to ensure best value of resources, outsourcing investigative work as needed.
  • Lead the technical direction and provide oversight for the team to achieve novel approaches to defect investigation.
Requirements:
  • Relevant degree in science or engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to self-manage, self-motivate, and continuously develop.
  • Experience in defect investigation, with a methodical and thorough approach.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team to resolve technical issues.
