We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at the Quadram Institute Bioscience. The successful candidate will have a strong background in microbiology and bioinformatics, with a focus on investigating the genetic basis of virulence in the bovine pathogen Salmonella enterica serovar Dublin.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform long-read sequencing of S. Dublin isolates and undertake genomic variation analysis to investigate virulence in bovine and human hosts.
  • Sequence isolates from in vitro and in vivo phenotyping at the University of Edinburgh and work collaboratively with a research scientist to link genotype to phenotype.
  • Develop and implement bioinformatics workflows and bespoke scripts to analyze data.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Microbiology or Bioinformatics or a related discipline.
  • Strong background in sequence analysis and a good understanding of long and short read sequencing.
  • Awareness of Salmonella zoonosis and excellent organisational and communication skills.
