Job Title: Support Officer - Domestic Abuse Team
Location: Winchester
Salary: SO1, £33,915.00 - £35,982.00 per annum
Hours: full time, 37 hours per week
Contract: temporary for 12 months
Job Purpose: To provide support to victims of domestic abuse and their families, working closely with the Police Perpetrated Domestic Abuse team.
Key Responsibilities- Provide emotional support and guidance to victims of domestic abuse, completing risk assessments and formulating a victim strategy where required.
- Ensure Victim Contracts and detailed OELs are completed at the earliest opportunity post charge and ensure relevant court paperwork is produced in a timely manner.
- Inform and guide discussions with victims regarding bail conditions, VPS, Special Measures and Restraining Orders, completing any relevant documentation and sharing with other agencies and OIC as appropriate.
- Understand the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme process and regularly review investigations to identify opportunities and complete relevant paperwork when necessary.
- Liaise with Witness Care Unit and PSD BST Meetings and Hearings Coordinator with regards to victims attending court and hearings who require additional practical support.
- Attend DV Court to provide a response to issues raised by the Crown Prosecution Service and to facilitate the victim giving evidence.
- Arrange for retraction statements to be taken and deploy with an IDVA if practicable to support and encourage victims to engage in CJ and internal police disciplinary processes.
PIP1 qualified or other relevant professional experience.
Essential ExperienceDemonstrate recent experience in management and support of victims of domestic abuse.
A detailed understanding of the criminal justice system.
Good communication skills with the ability to listen, empathise, provide support and adapt language, form, and message to meet the needs of different people / audiences.
Able to produce clear and concise reports and other documents within best practice procedures
