Student Retention Officer - Manchester

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Student Retention Officer. As a key member of our Student Success team, you will play a vital role in supporting students to achieve their academic goals and overcome challenges that may be hindering their progress.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and best practice, with previous experience of working with students in higher education, particularly with mature students. You will possess excellent communication skills, able to adapt messages for a diverse audience in an inclusive and accessible way.

As a Student Retention Officer, you will work collaboratively with the Head of Student Retention, Student Success Tutors, and relevant academic staff to develop bespoke plans to support students in need. You will also be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely records are kept, and working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure students remain engaged with their studies.

Main Responsibilities
  • Work with individual students who have been reported as being dis-engaged to help them return to productive study.
  • Ensure all assigned students are contacted and gain an understanding of the barriers to study they are encountering.
  • Keep accurate and timely records of student interactions and progress.
  • Work under the direction of the Head of Student Retention and in collaboration with relevant academics to develop bespoke plans to support students.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure students remain engaged with their studies.
  • Work within the appropriate professional framework and guidelines when dealing with non-attending students.
  • Assist with the administration of surveys and the collection of results for analysis.
  • Assist Registry with induction/enrolment processes as required.
Requirements
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent with knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practice.
  • Previous experience of working with students in higher education, particularly with mature students.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to adapt messages for a diverse audience.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise effectively to achieve objectives.
  • High level of computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
