Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to fit, operate, and maintain on-track machines (OTMs) in a safe and competent manner, adhering to the Competency-Based Standards for Fitters, Operators, and Maintainers, and the Colas Rail Railway Safety Case. Full training will be provided to the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for booking on and off duty at the time and place directed by the duty manager or senior production manager.
  • Maintain clear and open communications with the Rail Plant Control Room-Help Desk.
  • Work to a safe and competent standard, absorbing and retaining knowledge trained on.
  • Carry out emergency procedures as and when required.
  • Operate on-track machines in accordance with Railway Standards.
  • Assist specialist fitter staff in carrying out all aspects of maintenance and safety checks.

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of computer and phone skills, including Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Flexible, honest, and punctual.
  • Certified in Vehicle, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Good communication skills.
  • In possession of a clean full and valid road vehicle driving license to drive company vehicles.
  • Willing to continue learning and be trained.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and sense of professional pride.
  • Able to perform weekend and night shift duties.
