Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design of electronic products in our aerospace company. The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering and experience in the design and development of rotating machinery or similar areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform the mechanical design of Motors and electronic/electrical products.
  • Ensure the mechanical design meets agreed customer specification requirements with regard to technical, cost, weight, reliability, environmental and maintainability criteria.
  • Production of Design Schemes, including CAD models assemblies and 2D drawings for concept and detail designs.
  • Ensure all appropriate analysis of the mechanical design is carried out, identify and minimise risk, and where appropriate specify additional test requirements to validate the design.
  • Fully document the design, prepare design schemes and attend or conduct all necessary design reviews.
  • Work within an integrated product team, liaising with appropriate specialist engineers (Stress, Materials, Integration, Manufacturing, etc.), and interpret relevant analysis/test data to understand and resolve issues.
  • Work closely with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure correct interpretation of design intent and provide guidance for improving quality of the product.
  • Provide technical expertise to customers, project teams and other functional groups in support of new and mature products. Also to provide technical input in support of the selection and control of suppliers.
  • Operate in accordance with Collins Aerospace procedures and lead the necessary design reviews. Be able to provide process guidance to more junior designers.
  • Own work packages and be responsible for reporting on their progress and ensuring satisfactory milestone compliance with agreed targets to support project needs and timescales.
  • Support project development, ensuring the technical integrity of the product and that it meets all performance, reliability, cost and safety requirements.
