About the Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern to join our dynamic team at SLB Cambridge Research (SCR). As part of our multi-disciplinary team, you will work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry.

The primary goal of this internship is to study rock cutting mechanics. You will work with research scientists to apply an FEA model to simulate rock cutting and compare the numerical results with experimental data. The project may include developing and validating new features for the FEA model.

Key Responsibilities
  • Planning and carrying out modelling and experimental work.
  • Record and process the data
  • Scan test results
  • Calculate and compare efficiency
  • Simulate the experimental test model in ANSYS
  • Internal Report: summarizing the work and findings
  • Peer Review: presented to the whole site
Requirements
  • Studying for a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Similar
  • Data processing and analysis (Matlab)
  • Finite element modelling (ANSYS or ABAQUS)
  • Good communication skills
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Preferred: Emphasis on mechanics of materials/solid mechanics Experience with LS DYNA
