We are seeking an experienced Commodity Procurement Specialist to join our team at Unipart Rail. This is a full-time permanent role based in Crewe.

About the Role

As a Commodity Procurement Specialist, you will be responsible for managing the development and implementation of procurement strategies across various commodities within the Rail industry. Your key focus will be on embedding a smaller core of high-performance suppliers that deliver operational excellence while ensuring compliance with all ethical and professional codes of conduct.

You will work closely with internal stakeholders, including senior managers and directors, as well as external partners to drive business growth and cost reduction initiatives. Your expertise in strategic procurement, supplier relationship management, and contract negotiation will be essential in delivering successful outcomes.

This role requires a proactive and innovative approach to procurement, with a strong emphasis on process improvement and Lean principles. You will be responsible for analyzing market trends, identifying opportunities, and developing solutions to drive business value.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies across various commodities, targeting a smaller core of high-performance suppliers
  • Analyze forecast sales pipeline and SIOP processes to inform future scope of work and materials requirements
  • Liaise with approval bodies, such as Network Rail, to secure approvals for new suppliers or product groups
  • Conduct make-vs-buy reviews and negotiate contracts with selected suppliers
  • Promote a culture of collaboration and cross-functional working within the team
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A recognized procurement qualification or relevant work experience (minimum 5+ years)
  • Experience in developing and implementing commodity strategies within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of the Rail industry, including supplier marketplaces and associated approvals requirements
  • Excellent supplier development and relationship management skills
  • Ability to analyze complex data and present insights to senior stakeholders
