Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Geriatric Medicine Consultant to join our team at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals. As a Consultant in Geriatric Medicine, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality care to older patients in various clinical settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver a consultant-led liaison service to frail and complex patients on the medical admission units, providing comprehensive geriatric care.
  • Ensure timely discharge planning for older patients.
  • Support the training of junior doctors, including carrying out teaching, examination, and accreditation duties.
  • Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate continuing medical education activity.
  • Participate in clinical audit and continuing medical education.
Requirements
  • Be on the GMC Specialist Register for Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine or be within 6 months of obtaining Certificate of Completion of Training or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
  • Have extensive experience in geriatric medicine, including experience in admission avoidance and community geriatrics.
  • Have comprehensive knowledge of current issues in General Medicine.
  • Have IT skills and computer literacy.
  • Have proven skills in leading, motivating, developing, and managing the performance of colleagues.
Desirable Qualities
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates/postgraduates and junior medical staff.
  • Member of a Medical Defence organisation.
