About the Position

ERT is seeking a highly skilled Satellite Systems Engineer to support the Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) at NOAA. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of environmental satellite measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop calibration tools and interfaces for satellite instruments.
  • Support the system engineering and development of calibration tools and interfaces for the JPSS/GOES-R series and other Sensor Data Records (SDR).
  • Provide system engineering and related services in support of systems producing products derived from NOAA and non-NOAA satellite data.
  • Develop and maintain calibration parameters and tools for satellite instruments.
  • Support the operational calibration of SDR/L1b for the respective instruments.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of instrument and data product quality monitoring systems.
  • Work closely with STAR SDR teams, inter-Agency collaborations, and international partners on the development and maintenance of instrument and data product quality monitoring systems.
  • Support the exploration and demonstration of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) applications to sustain and/or improve the quality, completeness, and timeliness of STAR's satellite products and services.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 6+ years of applied science, software engineering, and programming experience in satellite-related applications.
  • Experience in instrument calibration and validation.
  • Software configuration and system administration abilities are recommended.
  • Knowledge of, and/or background in, cloud computing and/or AI/ML are also a plus.
