About the Role

GB Railfreight is seeking a highly skilled Railway Operations Planner to join our team. As a key member of our planning department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing train plans that meet the company's standards and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify Network Rail engineering works that impact the weekly train plan and communicate the impact to relevant stakeholders.
  • Engage and negotiate with Network Rail to identify schedules impacted by engineering works and submit alternative proposals.
  • Manage the Informed Traveller offer from Network Rail to ensure schedules match submissions.
  • Regularly engage with the Short Term Timetable and Traincrew Planning teams to ensure continuity and efficiency.
  • Assist and provide cover for the Engineering Access Manager as required.

Requirements

  • Ability to timetable trains over the national network, considering other services, network capability, and Timetable Planning Rules.
  • Good working knowledge of national railway geography.
  • Knowledge of train planning systems, including TRUST/TOPS/VoyagerPlan, TPS.
  • A general understanding of railway rules and operating methods.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Awareness of safety considerations in the workplace.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Detailed knowledge of the UK rail freight business.
  • Good knowledge of the UK rail industry as a whole.
  • Knowledge or previous experience of Network Rail's ITPS software.
  • Knowledge of existing GBRf traincrew depot locations, depot links, route knowledge, and traction knowledge.
  • Detailed knowledge of the workings of GBRf and the weekly train plans.
