We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Governance Officer to join our team at King's College Hospital. As a key member of our Legal Services department, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of our diverse and dynamic legal services.

Job Overview

The successful candidate will work closely with our Patient Safety, Patient Experience, and Quality Governance & Risk Management teams to provide support to our clinically led care groups across all of our sites. You will be responsible for managing litigation claims against the Trust, investigating claims for loss of personal property or damage to property, and assisting with Coroners' Inquest cases.

Main Duties
  • Manage litigation claims against the Trust for clinical negligence and employer/public liability cases.
  • Investigate claims for loss of personal property or damage to property and make recommendations on reimbursement.
  • Assist with Coroners' Inquest cases, including acting as primary liaison point with the Coroner's Office and managing frequent, unexpected, and urgent requests for information and/or assistance.
Analysis and Data Management
  • Maintain the data within the Trust's inquests and claims database (Datix), ensuring that the data is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Provide relevant information to the Associate Director of Legal as requested to form the wider Trust with regards to trends within the inquests' and claims' portfolio.
Person Specification
  • CILEx Associate or Graduate (or equivalent), or Law Degree, or extensive relevant experience assisting in the management of personal injury claims and/or clinical negligence claims/ inquests.
Knowledge/Experience
  • Knowledge of pre-action protocols for personal injury claims.
  • Knowledge of relevant NHSR reporting guidelines and requirements.
Skills/Knowledge/Ability
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with all disciplines of staff, including Patient Safety, individual members of staff involved in potential litigation or Coroner's inquests, Consultants, staff, and Managers of all levels.
  • Fully computer literate with knowledge of Windows, Excel, and PowerPoint.
