Behavioural Support Assistant

We are seeking a Behavioural Support Assistant to join our team at a residential special school in Chesterfield. The school caters to children aged 11-16 years with severe social, emotional, and mental health difficulties (SEMH). As a Behavioural Support Assistant, you will provide support for students with SEMH needs who may find it difficult or be reluctant to engage in education.
Your role will involve building rapport with students and creating positive relationships that influence them to regulate their behaviour. You will be part of a small team of 5 in charge of the safety and wellbeing of 15-25 students (depending on the time of year). Initially, you will work on a temporary basis, but the school will look to take you on a permanent contract after a period of transition.
What We Need from YouWe are looking for an individual who has previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or support worker or is passionate about improving the outcomes for young people. As an individual, you will be outgoing and confident in your abilities to deal with behavioural difficulties and re-engaging students in education.
It is desired (although not essential) that applicants have a qualification in Team Teach and experience in dealing with young people who have SEMH needs. It is also required that applicants are able to drive as you may be required to conduct safe and well visits to pupils' homes on occasion.
