Role OverviewWe're seeking an Associate Technical Director or above with a broad range of Planning and EIA/SEA experience to lead our Environmental Planning team in the South West and Wales. You'll be responsible for providing strategic oversight and coordination of the region, liaising closely with other Regional Leads across the UK. This role requires a confident and unflappable approach, with the ability to work collaboratively with technical specialists on a broad range of projects.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the team in the South West and Wales, responsible for recruitment, growth, and actively overseeing bidding and project delivery.
- Coordinate and deliver planning and environmental work undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental and planning outcomes.
- Support business development activities through participation in external market profile raising activities and functions, and involvement with key clients.
- Raise awareness of our services in the region, winning new opportunities and building new contacts.
- Actively engage in key client relationships, lead by example creating cross-selling opportunities for the wider business.
- Obtain regular feedback from clients on our performance and look to cross-sell the wider business.
- Work in partnership with other members of the Environmental Planning team and provide planning and environmental advice and support to clients, project managers, and colleagues.
- Engage with consultees and stakeholders.
- Manage projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety.
- Excellent working knowledge of the UK Planning system and consenting process, including EIA practices and procedures, including case law, and a solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and environmental technical specialisms.
- Experience across a range of project types.
- Strong report writing, verbal, and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality.
- Experience in multi-disciplinary coordination and leadership of projects, with good project management and technical skills.
- Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators, and stakeholders.
- Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance.
- Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards.
- A flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative approach to work.
- Experience in the delivery of DCO/TWAO/SEA and/or Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA) projects would be welcomed.
- Desired: Full Member of IEMA/IES/CEnv/RTPI.
