Critical Care Nurse Specialist

The post holder is responsible for the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of care programs for critically ill adults and post-operative patients in their care, in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team. They will act as an effective clinical role model, utilizing specialist knowledge obtained through relevant post-registration courses.
Main DutiesClinical ResponsibilitiesThe post holder will be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of plans of care. They will also be responsible for maintaining a safe clinical environment conducive to patient care.
Management ResponsibilitiesThe post holder will act as an appropriate and effective visible role model at all times, with support from the ward sister/charge nurse. They will also be responsible for mentoring junior staff and learners, and for participating in audit of clinical guidelines and policies.
LeadershipThe post holder will act as an effective leader, promoting excellence in nursing practice and development of high-level clinical skills in Intensive Care and Surgical High Dependency Unit. They will also be responsible for promoting a culture of safety and quality within the team.
Research & DevelopmentThe post holder will be aware of the research process and current trends, and will participate in audit of clinical guidelines and policies. They will also be responsible for promoting evidence-based practice within the team.
Professional ResponsibilitiesThe post holder will always behave in a manner that is professional, positive, and respectful, and will act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
