Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Culinary Leader to join our team in Newmarket, United Kingdom. As a key member of our kitchen staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring that students receive nutritious and delicious meals while leading a dedicated team of cooks.

  • Oversight of daily kitchen operations to maintain high standards of food quality and presentation.
  • Development and implementation of nutritionally balanced menus catering to various dietary requirements.
  • Leadership, coaching, and development of a team of cooks, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.
  • Planning and execution of theme days and added value events to enhance customer engagement.
  • Management of food costs, inventory, and budgets to ensure profitability.
  • Compliance with health and safety regulations and food safety standards.
  • Collaboration with school administrators and staff to meet student and staff needs.
  • Maintenance of accurate records and reports, including GP calculations and inventory management.
  • Active participation in food preparation and cooking processes as needed.

The position involves working Monday to Friday, 9am to 2pm, approximately, term-time only.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • Proven experience as a Chef Manager or in a similar role within a school or catering environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent culinary skills with a passion for creating nutritious and appealing meals.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and health and safety standards.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing needs.
  • Proficient in IT systems relevant to kitchen management and reporting.
  • Experience in budget management and cost control.
  • Creativity in developing themed events and special menus.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in the culinary field.
