About the Role

East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled Lead Obstetrician to join our team of enthusiastic, motivated and committed Consultants in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. As a key member of our department, you will contribute towards enhancing maternal safety within our unit.

This exciting opportunity has arisen following successful allocation of national funding through the Ockenden bid process. The successful candidate will have a strong obstetric focus, with experience and interest in fetal medicine and high-risk obstetrics. A complementary interest in maternal medicine would be an advantage and support the existing consultant body in providing obstetric services.

To be considered for this role, applicants must have completed CCT or equivalent (CESR) and be on the Specialist Register. We are looking for a dedicated professional who can provide clinical leadership and administrative responsibility for the proper functioning of the Obstetric and Gynaecology Department.

The ideal candidate will develop standards, procedures, and robust systems to ensure safe, high-quality, and efficient patient care from entry into the department to admission or discharge. They will also supervise junior medical staff, ensuring they learn and grow in their roles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Leadership: Provide administrative responsibility for the proper functioning of the Obstetric and Gynaecology Department.
  • Developing Standards: Develop standards, procedures, and robust systems to ensure safe, high-quality, and efficient patient care.
  • Supervising Junior Staff: Supervise junior medical staff, ensuring they learn and grow in their roles.
  • Risk Management: Ensure the safe and quality care of women and their families by managing risks effectively.

We offer a competitive salary of £85,000 - £117,000 per annum, depending on experience. In addition, we provide a range of benefits, including a generous pension scheme, unsocial hours payments, 27 days annual leave on commencement (pro rata), and access to various NHS discounts.
