About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Counsel to join our team at IPSA. As a key member of our Senior Leadership team, you will provide expert legal advice and support to our Executive, Board, and internal clients.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide proactive and highly proficient legal advice on all legal matters, including complex and high-risk issues.
  2. Ownership of all legal areas, including regulation, litigation, commercial contracts, data protection, employment, and corporate governance.
  3. Support IPSA in providing expert advice and guidance on statutory interpretation and the Scheme of MPs' Staffing and Business Costs.
  4. Collaborate with our People Team on employment-related advice and support the Policy Team on prescribed terms and conditions of employment.
  5. Manage commercial legal work, including drafting and evolving commercial contracts for external suppliers and contractors.
  6. Work closely with our Information Governance, Publications, and Communication teams to ensure a coherent approach to data privacy compliance and information management.
  7. Manage litigation, including high-profile cases, and select and manage specialist external legal advisers.
  8. Ensure effective legal risk reporting and monitoring.
Requirements
  1. Highest degree of professional ethics and integrity.
  2. Demonstrable 'can do' attitude, with strong analytical and lateral thinking abilities.
  3. Senior leadership experience, gained either as an in-house lawyer or within an established law firm.
  4. Strong track record of providing proactive, expert, timely, and authoritative strategic legal advice and support.
  5. Broad knowledge of all legal matters likely to affect IPSA, with a depth of knowledge and experience in advising on regulatory, public law, employment, equality and diversity, commercial, and information governance matters.
Interview Process and Timeline

Our interviews are competency and values-based, with a series of questions designed to assess your suitability for the role and for IPSA. We may also ask you to prepare a presentation.
