Job Summary

The Government Actuary's Department is a non-ministerial department responsible for improving the stewardship of public sector finances through analysis, modelling, and advice. As we expand our client service offerings, there is a need to enhance our project management capability to manage uncertainty and risk.

Job Description

The post holder will work with colleagues in the Actuarial Teams, leading on the delivery of key projects and building the project management capability of the actuarial teams through showcasing best practice and enabling that through support, guidance, and training.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Forge strong relationships with client teams and identify appropriate areas to lead on the delivery of projects for the Actuarial teams.
  2. Drive and support projects through the full project lifecycle, ensuring successful delivery through the application of the following activities:
  • Proactively seek opportunities for, and implement continuous improvement
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor appropriate project plans (including a comms plan)
  • Promote joint working and cross-functional working across project management and client teams to maximise knowledge sharing and team development opportunities
  • Identify and manage stakeholder relationships at all levels
  • Identify and monitor project risks and issues, agreeing mitigating actions and escalate where appropriate
  • Monitor and report on key progress against milestones
  • Project closure and review to capture and consider lessons learned.
Organisational Project Management Capability Enhancement

The post holder will contribute to organisational project management capability enhancement through the use of case studies, training, coaching, and mentoring of colleagues working with the GAD central project team.

Reporting and Communication

The post holder will provide regular project reporting to Senior Management on the progress of key projects (timeline, budget, and quality) and contribute to wider Project Management Information including balanced scorecard KPI.
