About the Role

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is a leading organisation in the Civil Service, with a total workforce of 196,720, including civil servants and military personnel. This is an exciting time to join the MOD as we seek a new Chief Scientific Advisor to provide objective analysis and guidance on science and technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic advice to MOD Ministers and senior officials on science and technology
  • Ensure the effective use of science and technology in the MOD
  • Champion operational analysis and risk management across the MOD
  • Support decisions on future equipment acquisitions and the nuclear deterrent
  • Deliver future battle-winning technologies
Requirements

We are seeking a candidate with a first-class, internationally recognised reputation in science or engineering, with a track record of significant research output and application. The successful candidate will have experience of operating in a complex stakeholder environment and be able to build and develop influential networks across academia, government, and industry.
