As a key member of the MI5 team, the Chief Scientific Advisor to National Security will play a critical role in shaping the organization's strategic approach to science and technology. The successful candidate will have a strong background in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline and excellent communication skills, with the ability to connect across science, mission, and policy communities.

The Chief Scientific Advisor will be responsible for providing strategic advice to the three intelligence agency heads and working in partnership with their leadership teams. This will involve developing understanding of the international S&T landscape, identifying opportunities, and building collaboration with international partners. The role will also involve sponsoring innovation, overseeing the MI5, SIS, and GCHQ Scientific Advisory Council, and supporting relevant S&T professions across the agencies.

The ideal candidate will have credibility as a scientist, engineer, or technologist, renowned in a relevant discipline, and a strong commitment to their own personal development and the growth of others. They will also be committed to promoting diversity and inclusion within the organization.

The appointment will be for a fixed term of three years, with the potential to be extended up to five years. The successful candidate will be required to hold the appropriate security clearance and will be entitled to a range of benefits, including 30 days annual leave and an additional 10.5 days public and privilege holidays.
