We are seeking an experienced Ophthalmic Assistant to join our dynamic team at the Hospital of St Johns and St Elizabeth. As a key member of our Outpatient Department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our consultant body.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the provision of excellent, evidence-based nursing care for patients, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to NMC and hospital guidelines.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, plan and implement care, and evaluate outcomes, documenting all interactions and interventions.
- Ensure a welcoming, caring, and safe environment for patients and their families, communicating complex information effectively and providing emotional support when needed.
- Develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge, completing training and development identified through appraisal and personal development planning.
- Administer medication competently and communicate effectively with patients, carers, and other staff to promote open and trusting relationships.
- Participate in clinical audit, risk management, and quality improvement initiatives, reporting incidents and contributing to the safety of the department.
- Act as a team leader for Healthcare Assistants, mentoring and precepting staff, and facilitating their development.
- Supervise and orientate temporary staff and new employees, providing guidance and support to ensure a smooth transition.
- Extensive experience as a Staff Nurse in a similar healthcare environment.
- Excellent people skills, good communication, and observation abilities.
- Sound knowledge and experience within various clinical specialties.
- Demonstrable experience in mentoring junior staff.
- Ability to work under pressure and with high volumes of work during peak times.
