Orthoptist Opportunity at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals

We are seeking an experienced Orthoptist to join our team at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. As an Orthoptist, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality Orthoptic assessment and management services to patients across various sites.

About the Role
  • Deliver expert analysis of clinical findings to colleagues, patients, and carers, advising on further assessment and treatment as necessary.
  • Work in partnership with Consultant Ophthalmologists, Paediatricians, and other health professionals to make diagnoses and recommend treatment options.
  • Assist surgeons in determining possible surgery and success rates.
  • Assess and manage patients referred from Stroke rehabilitation services.
  • Run community clinics as an autonomous practitioner, accepting referrals and liaising with clerical staff as required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Observe and adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.
  • Participate in annual performance reviews to identify personal development needs.
  • Attend Trust Statutory and Mandatory training sessions as required and any other relevant training courses.
  • Comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act and implement Mersey and West Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust's Statement of Policy on Health and Safety at Work.
  • Participate in the prevention and control of infection within the capacity of the role.
  • Be flexible in duties performed and willing to attend external training courses and demonstrate commitment to personal development.
Requirements
  • Post-graduate experience equivalent to a master's level.
  • Active participation in post-graduate training of orthoptic, optometry, nursing, and medical students.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in all areas of clinical adult and paediatric orthoptics.
  • Ability to select the most appropriate orthoptic tests based on knowledge of Ophthalmic conditions and previous patient performance.
  • Computer skills, familiar with Microsoft Office.
  • Statistical analysis.
