Job Summary

Principal Clinical Psychologist (Band 8B)

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Clinical Psychologist to join our dynamic team in Children and Young People's Psychological Services (CYPPS) - East Lancashire. The successful candidate will have delegated responsibility for discreet aspects of our specialist psychological therapy services, depending on specialist skills and/or geography.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful candidate will provide operational, clinical and professional leadership to colleagues, and contribute to service developments and leadership. They will also be offering clinical supervision to clinical colleagues in our services. Additionally, there will be opportunities to provide specialist clinical psychology assessment, formulation and therapy for individual children, young people and their parents/carers within the service and to work systemically with the broader system.

About Us

Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across this area. Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational, clinical and professional leadership to colleagues
  • Contribute to service developments and leadership
  • Offer clinical supervision to clinical colleagues in our services
  • Provide specialist clinical psychology assessment, formulation and therapy for individual children, young people and their parents/carers
  • Work systemically with the broader system

Person Specification

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology or equivalent for those who trained prior to 1996, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS
  • Substantial experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist with children, young people and their parents/carers
  • Substantial experience of contributing a psychological perspective within the context of multidisciplinary and multiagency care for children, young people and their parents/carers
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of child and family presentations that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing difficulties

Desirable

  • Pre-qualification training / qualifications in research methodology and/or other fields of applied psychology
