Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Postgraduate Dental team in the South West as a Training Programme Director (TPD) in Dental Core Training (DCT). The role of Training Programme Director is to work with and support the Postgraduate Dean and Associate Dean in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions within their specialty, aligned to the NHS England mandate.

The Training Programme Director will ensure that both national standards and guidelines established within the South West are met. They will work with the Postgraduate Dean to produce dentists who will strive for the highest standards of patient-centred care and commit themselves to a lifetime of professional development.

The South West DCT programme covers a large geographical area from Cornwall in the South, to Gloucester in the North and as far as Swindon in the East of the region.

This role attracts funding in recognition of the time that will be required for the duties of a TPD and is in line with other Dental TPD roles within the South West. This particular role carries 6 hours (sessions) per week of educational management contributions.

Main Duties of the Job

The Programme Director will ensure that both national standards, determined by the Royal College, GDC and guidelines and standards established within the South West are met.

Responsibilities will include:

  • To oversee the South West Dental Core Training Programme

  • Recruitment to training posts and programmes
  • Postgraduate programme management, including assessments, progression, rotations, support and remediation, OOP management, trainee management careers support, less than full-time training, inter-deanery transfer, academic training and other related work-streams.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced NHS Consultant with a thorough understanding of dental training across the region and who will also have strong leadership and communication skills and be able to work effectively as a member of a multi-professional team.
