NRL is a leading provider of mechanical and civil engineering services, seeking an experienced Environmental Sustainability Manager to join their team in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating environmental activities for NRL, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies. This is a full-time permanent role, requiring strong leadership and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement environmental management systems, ensuring compliance with ISO 14001 standards.

  • Provide support to contracts and construction teams, producing and delivering environmental plans and monitoring their effectiveness.

  • Work closely with management, clients, and stakeholders to achieve contract aims, develop processes, and implement good compliance management practices.

  • Train and develop team members regarding integrated management systems and legislative requirements.

  • Manage and maintain an audit regime for statutory and environmental compliance.

  • Ensure all staff are aware of environmental systems of work, comply with them, and have in place sufficient training.

  • Produce and deliver environmental calendar events, ensuring consistency and continuous improvement.

  • Continuous monitoring and auditing of environmental systems and procedures for all sites, updating and revising them as required to ensure site compliance with legislation and company policy.

  • Manage Audit Programme for the business and all contracts, monitoring compliance and ensuring external accreditation requirements are being maintained.

  • Mentor managers in the IMS System, enabling them to maintain compliance, identifying trends, and delivering initiatives to encourage compliance performance improvements.

  • Support the business with the management of complex/high-risk environmental issues/concerns through advice and coaching.

  • Support with environmental consents/permits through applications and notifications required.

  • Assist with the production of RAMS for all work activities, both at the head office workshop facility and all construction sites, including high-risk activities.

  • Provide detailed monthly reports to inform management of the shaping of environmental strategy, policy, and product development.

  • Support and encourage positive employee communication processes, with emphasis on engagement and communication at all levels, building constructive working relationships locally with Site Representatives.

Requirements

  • IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management.

  • Experience in Pipelines and AGI's, ideally.

  • Excellent understanding of the gas and oil industry, preferable.

  • Qualification/Experience of CDM 2015 Regulations.

  • Experience of operating in a complex, commercial, multi-divisional organisation.

  • Experience of ISO14001 audits.

  • Solid and up to date knowledge of practical environmental principles and practices, as well as environmental legislation.

  • In-depth knowledge of statutory compliance.

  • Detailed understanding of preferably all aspects of Environmental Management system.

  • Solid understanding of construction and project-related safety aspects.

  • Ability to deal with people at every level.
