Job Title: Research Assistant/Research Associate



Description

The University of Cambridge seeks a highly skilled Research Assistant/Research Associate to join our team in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy. The successful candidate will work on a research project focused on producing and characterising new compostable cellulose films based on processing of cellulose nanofibrils.



Key Responsibilities


  • Conduct research on the fabrication and characterisation of plastic packaging from natural feedstocks.
  • Develop and characterise new cellulose films with improved mechanical properties and smart functional properties.
  • Collaborate with Professors James Elliott, Ruth Cameron, and Serena Best on the project.
  • Manage own workload, meet deadlines, and update knowledge constantly.


A successful applicant who has submitted their thesis but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.



Requirements


  • Completion of a PhD in a relevant technical area.
  • Knowledge, skills, and experience specific to the research area.
  • Excellent communication skills and evidence of the ability to produce high-quality research outputs.
  • Experience of managing own workload, meeting deadlines, and the ability to constantly update knowledge.
