Progress Schools is a national group of 13 independent OFSTED-regulated schools, part of The Progress Group. This innovative education provider seeks a dynamic and creative Director of Alternative Education to join its Northamptonshire-based team.

About the Role

The successful candidate will lead the Special Educational Needs (SEN) department, fostering a love for learning, embracing diversity, and encouraging students to think beyond traditional boundaries. With approximately 35 pupils on roll, this role offers ample opportunities to provide a nurturing environment for children who require a second chance at education.

The ideal candidate will have experience teaching across the secondary age range, with a proven track record as a creative and adaptable leader who inspires and motivates students. Familiarity with virtual learning environments is desirable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the SEN department, promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and external partners to ensure seamless student support
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures aligned with company values
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A teaching qualification (QTS/QTLS)
  • National Award for SEN Co-ordination / NPQ for SENCOs (or be in first 3 years of a SENCO role)
  • Degree or equivalent
  • NPQSL and/or NPQH (desirable)
  • Proven experience working collaboratively with parents, community organizations, and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of equality of opportunity, safeguarding, child protection, and inclusion issues
