We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Physiologist to join our team at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust. As a key member of our cardiac physiology department, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality echocardiography services to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Perform and report echocardiograms to a high standard, meeting British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) guidelines and departmental local standards.
- Work alongside the lead cardiac physiologist to provide structured training to junior cardiac physiologists and doctors, with a view to their subsequent BSE accreditation.
- Maintain own BSE accreditation by ensuring appropriate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is up to date and course requests highlighted to the Head of Department in a timely manner.
- Provide an efficient running of the technical service by prioritizing daily workloads.
- Maintain standards of technical competency in the provision of non-invasive, technical cardiac procedures.
- Remain up to date with current evidence in echocardiography.
- Ensure that all echo studies are accurately recorded in our reporting system and outcome appropriately on the patient electronic record.
- Ensure smooth running of outpatient echo clinics, so that patients are seen on time and receive a high quality of care.
- Jointly oversee the day-to-day running of the echo service, ensuring that all equipment is operational, clean, and that stock levels are adequate.
- Support inpatient ward echo service, including portable echoes and urgent/emergency service to intensive and acute care units.
- Closely liaise with medical staff to assist patient management if required, based on echo findings.
- Participate in local echo Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) discussions.
- Assist clinicians in running advanced echo services, such as stress Transoesophageal Echocardiography (TOE), contrast, and bubbles echocardiograms.
- With sufficient training and support, work towards supporting the physiologist-led valve clinics.
- Use clinical audit to monitor, maintain, and develop clinical practice.
- Remain up to date with the latest trends in clinical physiology, translating these into practice and transferring this knowledge to staff.
- Comply with health and safety policies at all times.
- Ensure appropriate infection control and hand hygiene regulations are adhered to.
- Establish good relationships and communications with staff at all levels of the organization.
- Participate in departmental audits, stock checks, and medicines expiry checks.
Education and Qualifications
Essential
- BSc Clinical Physiology (or equivalent Science subject)
- BSE Level 2 Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE) accreditation
- Registered/qualify for registration with the Royal College of Clinical Physiologists (RCC)
