Main Responsibilities

This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly credible GP/medical/dental leader with a passion for integrated community working to provide senior clinical leadership for our Manchester and Trafford Local Care Organisations (LCOs) and the University Dental Hospital of Manchester (UDHM).

The successful candidate will promote research, innovation and education that will make our services fit for the future, and in doing so, put their career on an exciting trajectory.

With a commitment to system and organisational excellence, the appointee will ensure that new models of community care are clinically safe, support best practice and are sustainable for changing patterns of delivery, fostering high levels of clinical involvement, joint working focused on delivering the best outcomes for patients and people.

The role requires a strong track record of leading service improvement in a community environment and working collaboratively across systems, maintaining credibility and influence with clinical colleagues in the Clinical Group, across MFT, in Greater Manchester and nationally.

Main Duties
  1. Providing advice on developing our community services and ensuring other leaders stay focused on innovation, patient safety and better outcomes for our patients.
  2. Leading on GP, medical and dental workforce planning, recruitment, productivity employee relations, promoting diversity, equality and creating a sense of belonging.
  3. Acting as a role model for other medical leaders across MFT, securing confidence and credibility with teams as well as external stakeholders and our local communities.
  4. Helping to reconfigure our services to put patients at the centre of everything we do, working with other MFT medical leaders.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be a Senior qualified Doctor or Dentist with current General Medical Council or General Dental Council registration and appropriate specialist accreditation, or equivalent medical professional.

They will also have a post-graduate degree in health-related subject or equivalent, evidence of recent and relevant continuous professional development, and a formal management or leadership qualification.

The ideal candidate will have extensive senior level medical or dental leadership and managerial experience within an acute NHS Trust (or comparatively large and complex multi-disciplinary organisation).

They will also have extensive senior level medical or dental experience as a clinical practitioner, a clear appreciation of the context of acute healthcare provision within the modern NHS and understanding of the NHS Operating Framework.

A strong understanding of national NHS policy and strategy as it relates to the medical and dental staff and broader clinical workforce, as well as current professional challenges, is also essential.

The appointee will have extensive knowledge of clinical governance systems and risk management, a strong understanding of how MFT fits into the wider health and social care system, and experience of developing and implementing transformation programmes.

They will also have experience working on national programmes or contributing to national policy development, a successful track record of delivering a long-term vision whilst responding to short-term challenges and opportunities, and defining clinical strategies in a senior level medical or dental role.

A successful track record of developing an organisational culture committed to high quality, people, financial and performance standards is also required.

The ideal candidate will be able to manage different projects simultaneously with a high degree of autonomy in terms of decision-making and management of deadlines.

They will also be able to adapt to changing priorities, problem solve and re-focus the work of self and others on new priority areas that may require urgent action.

A passionate commitment to embedding equality, diversity and inclusivity, internally and externally, is also essential.

The appointee will be willing and able to travel between MFT's sites as required.
