Role Overview
Due to expansion, we are looking for a Lead Underwriting Specialist to join our North American Casualty division.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluating intricate submissions, including applications, policy documents, inspection reports, loss history, and financial statements while conducting thorough research to assess the risk level for each account.
- Determining appropriate risk premiums by analyzing the inherent risk costs associated with the respective sector, reinsurance arrangements, as well as underwriting and administrative expenses to ensure profitability.
- Influencing the direction of the North American Casualty portfolio to meet business plan objectives while operating within individual authority limits.
- Establishing and nurturing effective relationships with brokers and clients, generating new business opportunities, and identifying, implementing, and managing Coverholder arrangements that align with our risk appetite.
- Assisting in the business planning and forecasting process; overseeing financial exposure within defined limits; monitoring premium income to ensure compliance with established thresholds.
- Maintaining awareness of all reported claims while providing support and input on claims settlements.
- Executing tasks in accordance with established protocols, while possessing the ability to exercise discretion.
- Strategically planning for sales and business development, utilizing various techniques, tools, and information to foster profitable business growth over a specified timeframe.
- Structuring and conducting negotiations with brokers and/or clients to achieve outcomes that garner support and acceptance from all involved parties.
- Analyzing complex problems to make informed business decisions.
- Building strong interpersonal relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues to enhance personal profile and reputation within Rokstone and the wider market.
- Making underwriting decisions that align with business strategic plans and deliver desired outcomes.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience in North American Casualty.
- Comprehensive understanding of North American Casualty underwriting principles and practices.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in the insurance sector.
- Chartered Insurance Institute qualifications or other relevant certifications are advantageous.
