Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Rail Grinder Fitter to join our team in the UK. As a Rail Grinder Fitter, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining our grinding machines, ensuring they are safe and effective. You will work closely with our Grinding or Maintenance Supervisor to prepare the machine, assess work requirements, and achieve the required specification while maintaining health, safety, and environmental safeguards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operating or maintaining the machine safely and effectively, as instructed by the Grinding or Maintenance Supervisor.
  • 2nd man / fire watch duties on grinding operation
  • Reporting any machine defects to Grinding or Maintenance Supervisor, where appropriate.
  • Collating the data output from the machine where applicable.
  • To work safely and effectively to Colas Rail Services Operations procedures.
  • Assist as required
  • Assist in maintaining quality systems, machine safety packs and stabling database by continually monitoring, reviewing and making recommendations for updating as required
  • Undertake any other duties if assessed as competent to do so
  • Carry out COSS duties as and when required
  • Daily maintenance duties to include Chipping and Blowing
  • Able to complete daily Work Return Forms

SHEQ Responsibilities

  • Work to applicable Safety Plans and Method Statements.
  • Comply with Section 7 of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974

Requirements

  • Recognised formal apprenticeship in Mechanical / Electrical engineering
  • To have achieved the core competencies of Foundation Course,, Machine Setup and Pack away for Operation Grinding Railgrinding maintainer for Operations /Maintenance competence matrix.
  • Driving Licence
  • PTS
  • Fire Training
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Depot /Yard Inductions
  • Basic Laser Safety
  • COSS
