About the Role

The Scottish Government is seeking a passionate and experienced individual to lead the National Suicide Prevention Advisory Group (NSPAG) as Chair. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in supporting suicide prevention efforts across Scotland.

As Chair, you will play a pivotal role in guiding the NSPAG's strategic direction, fostering collaboration between diverse stakeholders, and advocating for evidence-based policies that promote mental well-being and reduce suicide rates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership to the NSPAG, setting a clear agenda and ensuring effective decision-making.
  • Convene and facilitate meetings, fostering open dialogue and constructive debate among members.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, healthcare providers, and individuals with lived experience of suicide.
  • Promote a culture of equality and inclusion within the NSPAG, ensuring all voices are heard and valued.
  • Advocate for policies and initiatives that align with national suicide prevention strategies.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Proven leadership experience in a complex and multi-stakeholder environment.
  • A deep understanding of suicide prevention issues and the factors that contribute to suicidal behaviour.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to build consensus and foster collaboration among diverse groups.
  • Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Remuneration and Time Commitment

The remuneration for this role is £300 per day, plus expenses. The time commitment is estimated at 3 days per month, which may include attending meetings and events outside of the central belt of Scotland.
