As a key member of our ophthalmology department, you will be responsible for the operational management of our theatres, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a strong clinical background in ophthalmology, with extensive experience in theatre management. You will be responsible for coordinating the initial set up of the theatre department, ensuring efficient and effective processes are in place to meet national guidelines. You will also be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the theatre, including staff management, inventory management, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Management: Coordinate the initial set up of the theatre department, ensuring efficient and effective processes are in place to meet national guidelines.
  • Theatre Management: Responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the theatre, including staff management, inventory management, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Staff Leadership: Provide professional and clinical leadership and management for a mixed skillset theatre team, made up of substantive and flexible bank staff.
  • Education and Training: Ensure clinical staff receive an effective orientation and induction, and receive supervision as required.
  • Personal Development: Maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge, and maintain awareness of professional issues.
  • Research, Audit and Governance: Lead and participate in departmental audits, and participate in governance processes within the service.

Requirements
  • Education and Qualification: Hold a current Nursing or Operating Department Practice degree or diploma, and work to the requirements of the Codes of Practice and Professional Standards as befits their professional registration.
  • Experience and Knowledge: Previous and recent extensive ophthalmic scrub experience, and previous experience as an ophthalmic theatre manager or lead.
  • Skills and Personal Attributes: Remain calm in pressurised environments, ability to work with a range of individuals across a variety of functions, organised with a high attention to detail, and a team player who is willing and happy to support the effective running of their service.
