Tax Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled Personal Tax Manager to join our team in Yorkshire. As a key member of our tax department, you will be responsible for managing the compliance process, administering the portfolio, and assisting with planning and projects. You will also supervise and review the work of junior staff, ensuring high-quality output.
Ongoing training will be provided, with opportunities to attend our annual tax conference and internal and external training sessions. This is a challenging and interesting client-facing role that provides a good range of work for someone with a similar tax background wishing to build on their experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identification of planning opportunities
- Completion of self-assessment tax returns for wealthy individuals, partnerships, and trusts
- Completion of associated tax computations, including calculations of capital gains on securities, chattels, and property transactions
- Completion of trust and estate tax returns
- Looking after the tax affairs of high net worth private clients, including non-UK domiciliaries
- Ensuring technical competence and accuracy of the department's work through review
- Budgeting
- Adherence to statutory and other deadlines
- Meeting billing targets
- Monitoring time and recovery for the group
- Reporting back to partners
- Liaising extensively with clients in relation to day-to-day compliance and planning issues
- Assisting the senior manager with the management of the group
Requirements:
- Similar experience in tax-focused or general practice roles in a medium to large-sized firm
- Experience of organising the delivery of tax work, problem-solving, and using your own initiative
- Experience of preparing computations from accounts
- Experience of advisory work or a strong desire to learn and be familiar with tax legislation
- Experience of personal tax, trusts, or both, with a willingness to develop your knowledge on both
- Experience of using computerised tax packages is useful
About the Office:
Our client's Yorkshire office has approximately 65 staff, advising a wide range of commercial businesses, private individuals, and not-for-profit organisations across Yorkshire and the North East of England. They have strong links with the professional and financial community of Leeds, the financial capital of the region.
About the Team:
The Yorkshire Tax department is made up of a team of 20, including two private client Partners, the Director of Corporate Tax, three Senior Managers, three Managers, three Seniors, three Semi-Seniors, and five Trainees. The mix of work in the group is varied and consists of clients including owner-managed businesses, landed estates, and high net worth individuals.
Education and Experience:
The ideal individual must have dealt with a similar range of tax issues appropriate to our client base of private clients. Similar experience operating at Assistant Manager or Manager level, CTA, and/or ACA/ACCA (or equivalent) qualified.
Salary and Benefits:
- 35-hour working week with flexibility around the core hours of 10am-4pm
- Working from home allowance of £25 a month
