The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Senior Structures Engineer to join our Consulting Structures Team in the South West. With shared office space in Bristol, Exeter, and Cardiff, we welcome applications from Senior Engineers across these regions.

Highways have named Amey Consulting as a Design partner to support the delivery of the largest and most comprehensive renewals programme that Highways have ever launched. The 6bn Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF), as well as the Severn Bridges Infrastructure Maintenance (SBIM) Contract, enables Highways to procure Design and Construction services across the Strategic Road Network for the next 6 years and beyond.

The Role

As a Lead Senior Structures Engineer, you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of Structures schemes while taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior engineers and technicians.

  1. To lead a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
  2. The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost, and programme.
  3. Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within their portfolio, controlling budgets, and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables.
What You Will Bring to Us

We are looking for a highly experienced and skilled Lead Senior Structures Engineer who can bring the following skills and qualifications to our team:

  1. Developed experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent.
  2. Able to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
  3. Experienced in undertaking project-related tasks associated with the management of health, safety, and welfare, e.g. Amey's Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
  4. Capable of acting as day-to-day main engineering contact for a project where required under the terms of the commission, e.g. Contractor's Responsible Engineer (CRE) for Network Rail schemes.
  5. Knowledge, understanding, and experience of design and specification process with the ability to advise others (Design Team Leader for appropriate projects).
  6. Highly experienced with relevant software and similar analytical tools.
  7. Has a very good understanding of CDM and risk assessment. Substantially experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects and ensures appropriate risk mitigation and transference has been applied.
  8. Capable of acting as Principal Designer for appropriate projects.
