Job Summary:

The Legal Assistant will provide administrative support to the Legal Services Directorate, assisting in the preparation of documentation, pleadings, and statistics. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, be able to prioritize tasks, and have a strong understanding of Microsoft Office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Documentation and Pleadings: Assist in the preparation of documentation and pleadings in connection with referrals from clients, drafting documentation and instructions, and dealing with matters arising under the appropriate legislation.
  • Collaboration and Liaison: Liaise with Line Manager, Solicitors, and Boards/Trusts personnel in collating material, ensuring referrals and instructions are dealt with in an expeditious and effective manner.
  • Statistics and Information: Assist in the preparation and maintenance of up-to-date statistics and information on the Legal Information System.
  • Briefs and Court Hearings: Assist in the preparation of Briefs for Counsel and arrange attendances on Counsel as and when required, together with the attendance of witnesses at Court Hearings/consultations.
  • Performance Enhancement: Liaise with Line Manager in developing teams/staff to enhance performance and actively participate in the BSO's Performance Management system.
  • Quality System Procedures: Actively participate in the Directorate's quality system procedures, including Investors in People, ISO 9001, and Lexcel.
  • Delegation and Support: Delegate functions to subordinate staff as are consistent with the overall efficiency and effectiveness within the Directorate and provide support as needed.

Requirements:

  • Education and Experience: 5 GCSE's including GCSE English Language & GCSE Mathematics (Grades A*-C) or equivalent qualification to demonstrate literacy and numeracy, or a minimum of 18 months relevant experience.
  • Microsoft Office: Have a minimum of 1 year's experience working with Microsoft Office or similar.
  • Relevant Experience: Relevant experience is defined as working within a legal or business environment undertaking legal, financial, or administrative support.
  • Ability to Prioritize: Have the ability to prioritize own work to meet set deadlines and achieve desired outcomes.
