We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Energetics Chemist to lead our laboratory team in the Presteigne area.

The Role:

As Laboratory Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the team conducting trials on explosive materials and munitions, as well as engineering tests on innovative projects.

We require a curious and enthusiastic chemist who is passionate about using science and technology to solve complex problems. You will be an exceptional team player, with a strong ability to design and manufacture formulations, process engineering, and report writing.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Leading the laboratory team in the development and validation of non-energetic materials used in energetic formulations and processes.
  2. Designing and manufacturing formulations, and conducting laboratory and performance testing of materials and energetics.
  3. Developing and implementing procedures for the safe handling and disposal of hazardous substances.
  4. Providing technical expertise and guidance to the team on analytical techniques and COSHH legislation.
  5. Collaborating with the team to meet and exceed customer requirements.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in Chemistry or Materials Science, and a proven track record of planning and undertaking laboratory work independently and safely. A UK Driving licence and high standard of literacy, numeracy, and IT skills are also essential.

Desirable Requirements:

  1. Health & Safety training - IOSH Managing Safely or similar.
  2. Knowledge of MoD/NATO and other relevant technical standards relating to energetic materials and articles.
  3. Understanding of laboratory and performance testing of materials and energetics.
