About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Data Engineer to join our dynamic data team at 15gifts. As a key member of our product teams, you will play a crucial role in designing and building high-quality data pipelines to power our cutting-edge genAI products.

The successful candidate will have a strong background and expertise in real-time data engineering and cloud technologies, and be able to apply this expertise to business problems to generate value.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Data Engineering Efforts: As our primary data engineering subject matter expert, you will shape our data engineering roadmap and design and build consensus around data architecture plans.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement robust, scalable solutions that meet business needs.
  • Design and Build Data Pipelines: You will design, build, maintain, and upgrade data pipelines and self-service tooling to provide clean, efficient results.
  • Ensure Data Governance: You will promote data governance through documentation, observability, and controls, and ensure that data pipelines are well-documented and easily maintainable.
  • Stay Up-to-Date with Industry Trends: You will stay current with industry trends and best practices, and promote the adoption of tools and best practices across the team.
Requirements
  • Significant Commercial Experience: You will have significant commercial experience in a senior Data Engineering role, with a strong track record of delivering high-quality data solutions.
  • Great Python Skills: You will have excellent Python skills and be able to apply them to complex data engineering problems.
  • Strong Experience with Tracking Technologies: You will have strong experience with tracking technologies such as Snowplow/Rudderstack/Segment, and be able to apply this expertise to business problems.
  • Previous Experience with Real-Time Data Streaming: You will have previous experience with real-time data streaming platforms such as Kafka/Confluent/Google Cloud Pub/Sub, and be able to apply this expertise to business problems.
  • Experience Handling and Validating Real-Time Data: You will have experience handling and validating real-time data, and be able to apply this expertise to business problems.
  • Experience with Stream Processing Frameworks: You will have experience with stream processing frameworks such as Faust/Flink/Kafka Streams or similar, and be able to apply this expertise to business problems.
  • Proficient with ELT Pipelines: You will be proficient with ELT pipelines and the full data lifecycle, including managing data pipelines over time and evolving them to meet new business requirements.
  • Experience Mentoring Team Members: You will have experience mentoring team members and colleagues, and be able to apply this expertise to business problems.
