Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to work in an alternative healthcare setting, delivering transformational models of forensic, physical, and mental healthcare into police custody suites. As a Forensic Healthcare Specialist, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient-centred programmes of care to a specialist level, ensuring that your practice is grounded in evidence-based theoretical and practical knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting clinical assessments to identify if patients are fit to be detained in custody
- Providing continued care, including the management of long-term conditions, minor illnesses, injuries, and emergency treatment
- Mental health and substance misuse assessments and management
- Forensic sampling, including road traffic offence bloods
- Providing substance misuse therapies while in custody
- Referrals and signposting to support wider vulnerabilities
- Maintaining accurate records to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of detained persons held in police custody
Requirements
We are looking for an individual with a background and professional registration, either as a nurse or paramedic. The UK Association of Forensic Nursing recommends a minimum of 3-4 years' experience post-registration. We also welcome advanced skills, including non-medical prescribing.
Benefits
As a member of our team, you can expect a competitive salary, ranging from £35,000 to £45,000 per annum, depending on experience. Our benefits package includes generous annual leave, access to NHS discount sites, and opportunities for professional development.
